What is the ‘Live Like a Tudor’ Immersion Weekend?
As Tudor lovers, we LOVE to read about Tudor history but imagine what it would be like to experience living like a Tudor!  
In collaboration with Brigitte Webster from TudorExperience.com, 'The Tudor Travel Guide' has created an immersive Tudor experience, held over one weekend, where you will have the chance to enjoy the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Tudor England.  
We will be based at Brigitte and Tom Webster's sumptuous early, sixteenth-century manor house: the Old Hall in Norfolk, the county of Anne Boleyn's birth. From the moment you arrive, you will be able to leave the present behind and escape to the past. 
This weekend surpassed our expectations when we ran it for the first time in 2021. Praise for the event was fulsome. You can read some of the testimonials a little further down the page.

What You Can Expect from the 'Live Like a Tudor Weekend'...

Friday 19 August 2022 

Day One: Arrive late afternoon. 

In the evening, relax and enjoy a very informal talk (over a glass of wine or mead!) by 'The Tudor Travel Guide'. Sarah will welcome you to the weekend and share with you her latest research interest. You can be sure that this will embrace the very best of Tudor places, journeys and progresses. You will then be served with homemade Tudor food for your evening meal, courtesy of our host, Brigitte Webster, whose recipes are regularly featured on 'The Tudor Travel Guide' blog. 

Conversation, wine (or other alcoholic drinks) and laughter will flow as we warm up for the weekend ahead! There will even be time to dress for dinner. You can bring your own Tudor costume, or (size depending) try on a number that we will have available for loan for the weekend.

Day Two: Kentwell - The High Summer Tudor Event 

We will be taken by air-conditioned minibus to the utterly unique high-summer Tudor re-enactment event at Kentwell in Suffolk , where we will enjoy a full day out.  Kentwell's high-summer Tudor festival is probably the largest, and certainly most authentic, re-enactment event in the world. The grounds and house are taken over by Tudors as they go about their everyday business, be they merchants, milk-maids, lords or ladies. 

You will have the fun of being able to talk to the characters of the past. I promise you, this joyous event will make you feel as though you have slipped back in time and is utterly unforgettable! After a full day out, we will return to the Old Hall and chat with our fellow Tudorphiles over our candlelit, Tudor dinner as we share the colourful stories of the day and learn more about Tudor food from our host, Brigitte Webster.

Day Three: Tudor Fun at the Old Hall

On our final day together, we will indulge in a couple of Tudor past-times. The first is falconry; the sport of the Tudor nobility.  Meet some birds of prey close up and have a go at flying them for yourself! 
The second will be some Tudor dancing. You will be able to watch a number of Tudor dances being performed by our guest dancers before being invited, (should you wish), to join in and learn some of the easier dances for yourself.  Perhaps you will want to grab your very own Tudor selfie to impress your friends! 

Finally, there will be more tasty Tudor morsels to eat for lunch before Brigitte conducts a tour of the house.  

Around 3pm, the event will draw to a close.

  • Tudor dinner on the first and second evenings, including a talk on Tudor food by Brigitte Webster on day two.
  • ​A Tudor lunch on the final day.
  • ​Tea, coffee and Tudor snacks while at the Old Hall.

  • ​Tudor dancing and music, including demonstration dancing and a chance to join in and learn some of the simpler Tudor dances for yourself.

  • ​The opportunity to play Tudor games and enjoy some falconry on the final morning of our stay.
  • ​A chance to try on items of Tudor clothing (full costumes will be available to try, although this will be size-dependent. However, everyone will, at the very least, have chance to wear some Tudor headgear.)
IMPORTANT:
Please note that accommodation is not included in the price of this ticket, to allow you to flex your budget as you wish.

COVID: We will do everything we can to stick to our itinerary. However, we are at the mercy of COVID these days and should a flare-up occur, and lockdown is imposed, meaning we have to cancel, our policy will be to refund or offer a roll-over to another date. Similarly, COVID has greatly affected historic sites and should the Kentwell arrangements be changed, with either the event being cancelled or moved to another date, we will endeavour to offer an alternative experience, such as a visit to Blickling Hall, once home of the Boleyns, or lay on more Tudor entertainment at the Old Hall if appropriate. If all else fails, we will offer a refund if we feel we cannot fulfil the spirit of the weekend by finding a suitable alternative experience. 

Please also note that to keep everyone safe, we are asking that everyone who signs up for the weekend agrees to providing proof of vaccination and proof of a negative COVID test taken the evening before you travel to the event.

Meet Your Event Hosts
Dr Sarah Morris
Sarah Morris, also known as The Tudor Travel Guide, lives in the picturesque Oxfordshire countryside. She has written two novels about Anne Boleyn, ‘Le Temps Viendra: A Novel of Anne Boleyn, Volumes I and II, plus she has co-authored two non-fiction books; ‘In the Footsteps of Anne Boleyn’ and ‘In the Footsteps of the Six Wives of Henry VIII’.  

In 2018, Sarah established The Tudor Travel Guide: 'your visitor’s companion to the houses, castles and manors of sixteenth century'. She has appeared on several TV shows as a Tudor expert and was central in the rediscovery of the ‘Anne of Cleves’ Heraldic Panels’ with Jonathan Foyle. Sarah also produces a monthly podcast, The Tudor History and Travel Show, exploring Tudor places and artefacts.
Tom and Brigitte Webster
The TudorExperience.com is the brainchild of Brigitte Webster. Born in Austria, Brigitte trained, and served as a schoolteacher for 25 years. Her qualification was in history and cooking, a combination that has finally come together in her current career as a culinary historian, currently working on a number of publications on international cuisine of the sixteenth century. The TudorExperience.com is a venture that finally allows her to share her passion for all things Tudor with a wider audience, especially now that she and her husband have at last moved into their dream home, an authentic Tudor manor. 

She is supported in her venture by her husband, Tom who is a long-standing history re-enactor, military adviser and owner of an historic firearms company.
